Day 5

We went to a free indoor car show.  Hippie really liked that.  Most of the cars could be purchased.  They had one that was over one million dollars for sale.  There was a car that Johnny Carson's father owned and Johnny had learned to drive in.  A car from Red Skelton and Howard Hughes.  There were some beautiful old cars.

That night we went to the House of Blues for dinner.

We have one in Cleveland but I've never gone, ha.

We went back to the Luxor and played the slots.  Every day we would play them.  Any money I won, I just put back in the machine. Hippie was the only one to break even.

My particular favorite was a machine called  Leprechaun's Gold Gettin Lucky.  I also played a Survivor slot  and finally the last couple of days, I played video blackjack.  I brought home a 3 cent voucher as a souvenir, ha!!

Day 4

They had a Nathan's Hot Dog where we were staying, so I ate there for lunch.  I've always wanted to try one of their hot dogs.  It was pretty good.

Hippie and son went to a place called Bill's Gambling Hall & Saloon.   We dropped them off and

Son's girlfriend and I went and got a Starbucks and then went to see Menopause the Musical at the Luxor.

I about died laughing at this.   It's so funny and so true.

After we picked them up we went to another place I've always wanted to go to

Day 3

Every morning, hippie would go down and get us coffee and bring it up.  Then he would get us a second cup and would bring me a croissant.

This was the only day I got lunch from this place.   He paid $10.50 for a turkey, bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.  It was pretty big though but yikes, on the price.

That night we went to the Excaliber (which was connected to the Luxor) to see the Tournament of Kings.

This was so much fun.  It was a medieval themed dinner.  You ate with your hands.  We had tomato soup but the bowl had a handle.  Then we had Cornish hen, red potatoes, and broccoli.  We also had an apple pastry.  Everyone sat in different sections (ours was Russia and we were in the first row).  Down below there was an arena and there was dancing, sword fighting, jousting on horses and fireworks.  A lot of yelling and screaming for the person who was representing the country you were sitting in.  I would highly recommend this if you go to Vegas.

Day 2 - vacation

We had tickets to a murder mystery dinner on Fremont Street.

There were a ton of casino's, eating places and stores there.  They had zip lines at the top that people were riding on.  It was cool.   They also were having a Battle of the Bands.

We went to the Marriage can be Murder dinner at Fitzgeralds Casino

Hippie and son were pall bearers when someone got murdered.  Son was also in the group that played music (like in New Orleans) behind the person being carried off. He played a plastic saxophone (you think I would have thought to take a picture -NOT) We had a really good meal.  You could either have beef, chicken and son's girlfriend had vegan.  I ended up figuring out who the murderer was after we had to turn in our slips.  I was a little late LOL but it was fun.  The murderer was a woman and she was sitting right behind son's girlfriend.  I also sat next to a couple that had just renewed their vows.  She was in a long white dress and was wearing a wrist corsage.  They had been married for 60 years.

Here are a couple of other casino's I took pictures of and they have a lot of neon signs as well.

Also when we were on Fremont Street it rained.  Can you believe it?  I think we might have brought some with us.  It probably rained over 45 minutes or so and pretty hard.

Still Day 1

Our flight went surprisingly well.  I did take an Ativan before we left, ha.  I slept a lot on the way.  The security check was pretty easy.  We just had to go through a metal detector and of course take off our shoes.

Our son and his girlfriend picked us up at the airport after we landed.  We had some time before we could check in so we went to see their apartment.  While we were there, we walked to a Starbucks.

They dropped us off at The Luxor and we laid down and rested for a while.  We really didn't want to do much because we had gotten up around 5:30 a.m.

When they picked us up, we went to the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop.  If you watch the History Channel you'll know what I'm talking about.

It was very crowded with all of us tourists coming to see the shop.  Hippie recognized some of the things for sale from the show.  None of the people on the show were there though.

When we were done, we went to a really good restaurant called Battista's Hole in the Wall Restaurant.  Each table got two free carafe's of wine, one white & one red.  You could get more if you drank it but we didn't.  After you were done eating, everyone got an espresso that had whipped cream in it.  It tasted more like a dessert drink and was EXCELLENT.  An old man with an accordion came to each table and asked where we were from.  When we told him he said, "I bet you don't think I know any Ohio songs" and he played The Ohio State University fight song.  We figured he must have learned all the university songs from each state LOL.

After we ate and drank, we went back to our room and I was out like a light about 8:30 p.m. Vegas time.

Mom & roommate

Today is Mom's birthday.  She turned 84.  I brought a 1/2 sheet cake and one of my cousins and her husband came as well.  Mom was in the day room all ready and waiting when we got there.

Before I got to her, the nurse called me aside to tell me not to go to Mom's room because her roommate was actively dying ;-(

We went ahead and lit the candles and everyone sang to Mom..  We passed out the cake and then visited with Mom in another room.

Before I left, the nurse came and told me that the roommate did pass.  She was going to tell Mom later about her.  I'm wondering how Mom will react.   She did live with the woman for almost 2 years.  She was used to her ways.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day everyone.  Even if you are not, you had a mother so LOL

When we went to see Mom this morning she was at a tea.  I was lucky and it had just started.  They had cookies, tea and entertainment.  It was fun.  Mom wanted some perfume so I bought her a bottle of Chantilly.  I remembered we used to buy it for her when we were kids.  Hopefully, when they put it on her she will remember.

Hope you had a beautiful day ;-)

Random thoughts

1.  Did anyone watch The Voice on NBC on Tuesday.  I liked it a lot.  I loved the blind auditions.  I really like the concept of the whole show.

2.  We just had the rainiest April ever.  Or at least since they've been keeping records. Goodbye April.

3.  So... did you watch the big wedding on Friday?  I really hadn't been into it.  I didn't watch any of the hoopla the last few weeks.  Then I decided to set the clock for 5 a.m.   I woke up before the alarm at 4:15 and decided to stay up and start watching. I loved the dress and the whole thing. I hope they live happily ever after.   I felt very sad though that Princess Diana wasn't there.  I have a feeling though she would have approved of the Duchess of Cambridge.

4.  I drank about 4 cups of coffee to keep awake during the wedding and then about 8:00 I took a nap, ha, ha.

5.  Mom went on field trip to eat lunch at Bob Evans last week.  I didn't see her for a couple of days after but she remembered she went and ate, yippee!!

6.  Gas over the weekend $4.15, Whoa!!!!
