I'm going to apologize for this up front no pun intended ;-) for the letter X, I chose XYZ. When I originally wrote this, I figured this started with an X. After seeing it again, I think this might be stretching it but I'm sticking to it anyhow lol.
I had never heard of this but apparently XYZ is slang to let someone know their zipper is down. It stands for (e)xamine your zipper. I asked my husband if he ever heard of it but he hadn't. Have you?
Here's the link I got it from
Check out Jenny's to see what others came up with for X, maybe someone else will use XYZ too. You never know. http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/06/alphabe-thursday-x.html
P.S. Also Debbie at debbiedoos has entered a contest to try to get a host job on Oprah's new network. When you get a change go over and look at her video and vote for her. She needs a lot of votes. You can vote more than once. I'm not sure how long the voting is so don't wait ;-) Thanks.

I remember hearing xyz pretty darn fast when I was in school.
ReplyDeleteI am off to vote.
Viki! I love this link!
ReplyDeleteI had totally forgotten about XYZ. What a fun memory this was. And so, so clever!
I've been voting for Debbie, too. I hope she wins! Wouldn't that be fun!
Thank you for making this little stop on our journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "X" so X-cellent!

Awww....Viki you are awesome...and NO I have never heard of that....I just say "hey your fly is open" now I know a new term, I can't wait to share it with my boys:) And they think I am a dork..HUH I will show them I know a thing or two. Thanks for adding that at the end of your post, I appreciate it...voting is til July 3rd, time is ticking!
ReplyDeleteIn England it is not called a zipper but the expression used is "your flies are undone" don't ask me where it comes from but that is what is said :-)
ReplyDeleteCute I had not heard this. When I was a kid they use to say something like your barn door is hanging open. Of course I went to schools filled with farm kids.
ReplyDeleteThat was a good x post. I did not know that info.
ReplyDeleteWe always said XYZ PDQ - as in "eXamine your zipper pretty darn quick!"
ReplyDeletethat was funny .... i had forgotten about that saying a long long time ago.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard that one! We'd say 'your fly is undone' ...pretty blunt!
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten XYZ~ Happy 4th :-)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely remember XYZ! That shows how old I am......
ReplyDeleteYou learn something new everyday! I did not know that!
ReplyDeleteI have heard of that. Here in Western Pennsylvania. We used to say "Kennywood's Open" to mean your zipper is down. Kennywood is a local beloved amusement park with a devoted, local, multi-generational following. For people who have never heard of it.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that XYZ could have that kind of meaning. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say what Chrisite did XYZ PDQ that is what we said...ALL THE TIME!
ReplyDeleteNever heard this before, we would say "your flie's are undone", but why flies?? Who knows?
ReplyDeleteJust asked DH and he doesn't know either, but he checked nevertheless! LOL

Oh...I remember that phrase sooo well. Elementary school. For some reason we made it a point to search and rescue each poor soul we saw with the said problem.
ReplyDeleteWas that strange or helpful? I'm not sure.
Visiting from Jenny's site!
I remember this from school...girls used to use this phrase to tease boys unmercifully. We were evil as kids.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Yes, I remember XYZ! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised at how many people didn't know this saying. I thought it was universal! Oh well. Great post!
ReplyDeletei knew this one :D
ReplyDeletehandsome one!
ReplyDeleteLOL...LOL
ReplyDeleteWell I had to wait to type because I was thinking of all my incidents with XYZ, not on my person of course...EE ghads! LOL

wGood morning Viki,
ReplyDeleteNo, I've never heard about that XYZ zipper thing either. That is a GOOD one!
Thanks for sharing with us this week and for stopping by the farmhouse for a visit. We love having company!
Hope you and your family have a safe and Happy 4th of July!
I'd never heard this before either. There's another XYZ up but it's totally different from this. Fun one to share.
