Saturday Centus #39

It's Saturday Centus again - in a nutshell, Jenny Matlock gives us a prompt from either herself or a guest submitter and then we have to write 100 or words less related to the prompt (the prompt doesn't count toward the 100 words) Then link it up to her blog. It's open until the following Saturday, so that means you have all week to participate by either reading or writing.http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/search/label/Saturday%20Centus

The prompt is in bold.

Rachel and her family found their dream home and it was time to start packing.  She trudged up to the attic.  She dreaded it because she had stuff that was sent over from England where her grandparents had lived in their later years until they died.

She lifted the stack of letters from the ancient chest and started to read.  It was correspondence from a teenaged girl in England and an American soldier, who eventually married, her grandparents.   As she read letter after letter, Rachel got an idea.  I bet this would make a good short story or even a novel.  She carefully put the letters back for the future.

Random thoughts

1.  I can't believe it's been 25 years since the Challenger Shuttle.  I remember my son was less than a month from being 4.  I was watching the launch that day and couldn't believe what I saw.  I watched TV non-stop.  It's one of those days in America's history you remember when and where you were at the time.

2. We've got snow but so far we've been lucky and haven't gotten tons and tons.  It's mostly been very cold.  The weather guy said we might get hit with a lot more snow in February.  I hope he's wrong.

3. Today I had an ophthalmologist appointment.  He says to me after examining me -  "Oh, I see your going to hit a milestone birthday this year.  You've got the start of cataracts but they are slow growing.  You probably won't have to have anything done until your 70".  Thanks Doc LOL.

4.  This week was my dinner friends.  We went to a sports  bar.  I ended up getting a BLT and potato salad.  It was something I don't ordinarily get but it was very good.

5.  I hope for Saturday Centus Jenny doesn't pull another fast one on us, ha, ha, ha.

It's another SHAKE UP week.  We have to try to write our centus in the SciFi genre.  Yuck, yuck, yuck.  Enough said.

Prompt is in bold.

"Let's get the kids and visit Earth".

"It's very scary there even for adults".

“I think the children are old enough to learn what happens when people don’t work together for the greater good.   What better lesson could we give them, Xzar”?

“I know you’re right, Orsa.  My grandparents came here because people got so mean; stopped caring about others and only looked out for themselves protecting everything they had with guns. It makes you wonder what they were thinking.  Let’s go”.

“I’m ready.  Beam me up, Scottie.   Don’t forget the protective bubble just in case”.

Random thoughts

1.  The longer I'm not blogging regular, the harder it is to start up again.

2.  Christmas with the in-laws was the best.  We had such a good time.

3.  It was fun having our son home but we weren't used to the hours he kept anymore.  We've been trying to catch up on our sleep, ha.

4.  I've also been busy trying to get my file cabinets straightened out and some other things organized.

5.  We finally got our new fridge delivered.

6.  Over the holidays, Mom was having more trouble with the roommate taking her underclothes.  Now, the nurse put a container next to Mom's bed, hoping she won't think to look over there @@.

7.  I'm starting to delete some blog posts without reading them.  I hope I don't miss something important LOL.

My son is flying home next week.  I'm over 700 blogs posts behind, yikes.

The prompt is in bold.

The prompt this week is a picture.

It was the first time they had taken a vacation in 20 years.  Their children for Christmas had bought them plane tickets and booked a hotel room for them in sunny Florida.

Harry and Sally jumped out of bed when they heard a knock on the door.  It was room service with their breakfast.  They sat at the little table drinking coffee, eating bacon, eggs and toast.

Harry grabbed the newspaper and started to read.  “Oh no” Harry said.

“What” Sally said.

He showed her a picture of  a frozen orange.  “I guess no swimming for us today”.

Jury duty

I have to go for jury duty in February but luckily it's not downtown.

Two other times I've been called by the local court but I had legitimate reasons for not being able to go.  This time, they didn't ask me to fill out a questionnaire if there's a reason I can't come, ha.

It seems like I will have to call every night before I'm supposed to go to see if they'll need me which is different then when I had to serve downtown.

Since it's local,  I think they don't have really horrendous cases; at least I'm hoping that is the case.

Should be interesting.

Busy, Busy January

It is going to be a busy time here this month.  I finally got my walls washed in the bathroom.  The walls really need to be painted but so does the inside of my whole house.  We really need to try and get the inside done this year.

We're going to take Corky by one of my dinner friends to see how he gets along with her dog.  I want him to go by her Saturday when we have the in-law Christmas.  I don't think they want to fight him for the couch LOL.

This week our son will be coming home for almost two weeks.  I'm looking so forward to seeing him.

We've got  blood tests, doctors and dentists appointments etc.  Some I rescheduled from December, what was I thinking, ha.

We really didn't do much on New Year's Day.  We did have the usual pork and sauerkraut.  They say whatever you do on New Years Day is what you will be doing the rest of the year.  Then on Sunday I thought about it and figure that it probably wasn't such a good idea lazing around all day LOL.

Today I'm going to have to hit the ground running to get everything done I need to this week.

I hope everyone had a great New Years Eve/Day.

The prompt is in bold.  Hopefully, this is the end of the holiday prompts for a while, ha.

Her crumpled up list of resolutions sat on the floor.  She picked them up and started reading them.

1.       Lose weight
2.       Organize house
3.       Exercise more

Blah, blah, blah.  Every year the same old stuff.  Betsy was a great list maker just never good on the follow through.

Maybe she was taking the wrong approach.  She got out a new piece of paper and started to write.

1.       Hire a chef
2.       Hire an organizer
3.       Hire a trainer.

Now she needed ideas on how to come up with the money to afford all these people...
