Last weekend we went to a family picnic at our nephew's house. The weather was so gorgeous, 70's with a little breeze.
He is going to become a beekeeper. He is going to take classes and by next year at the picnic he should have bees. I hope they are not buzzing around us, lol.
He bought a hive but now they are going to use it as a decoration and use something else. I think it's darling and wouldn't want it messed up either.
I hope by the time you read this Mike, you are feeling better after having your tonsils out, from your favorite Aunt ;-)

The Newlyweds
So, son and daughter-in-law moved to Iowa last Thursday. It's been quite the week for them I think. They took only what could fit into their small Cavalier. They really didn't have much in furniture in Vegas since they knew they weren't staying. They sold or gave away everything they didn't take. Plus, they UPS'd some things.
Son loves their new place since they have 2 bedrooms and a dining room. However, when they got their the owner had been making repairs for quite a long time so they had no utilities. Friday they were under the impression their electricity would be turned on. Nope, an inspector came and they didn't get it turned on until Monday. Then earlier in the week they came on to turn on the gas but they couldn't because something was wrong with the stove. Maintenance came to fix it, then gas was restored. Yesterday I spoke to him and their refrigerator wasn't working. Again, a call to maintenance. It needs a new compressor which is supposed to be fixed today. He doesn't seem too upset about it (I would be, it's not like they didn't know what day they would be coming, ha). He's just happy maintenance is faster than when they lived in Vegas.
They already went to a resale shop and purchased a couple of desks, end tables and a TV stand (for the TV they don't have right now;-) They also bought a frame and a mismatched mattress and box spring for a good deal. At Salvation Army they got some temporary dishes. A lady was moving out and she gave them a couple of wicker chairs for them to use until they buy something for the living room.
Oh, to be starting out again. It would be so much fun!

Corky
When Mom left my house, after living with us for almost a year, and had to go to the nursing home, we kept her dog, Corky. After a couple of years when hippie and I went on vacation and he stayed with my brother, he decided he would keep him. This week my brother had to put him to sleep. He was about 14 years old or a little older. He was having a hard time walking, he hadn't been in good shape for a while. Here's a picture of him from last Thanksgiving. He had really gotten gray.
He wasn't too happy getting his picture taken, ha!
He was such a good dog, although my brother and sister-in-law always called him 'Rain man.'
I feel sad but my brother is crushed. I think it has something to do with mom and it's really the last tangible connection he had to her.

Golden
Imagine a boy meets a girl who lives on the same street, marries and are still together 50 years later. Yay!
Last week (I believe it was September 12th), my cousin and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
On Sunday, we celebrated with them at Church, a brunch and went back to one of their daughter's homes.
Her sister was 13 at the time and I was 12. We were junior bridesmaids. Do they even have those anymore?
Over the years, I'm sure they've had ups and downs but they got through them, together. They are an inspiration to me.

Son
My son left early Wednesday morning. I miss him already. It was great to see him. He looked the same, except he could have used a haircut ;-). He was so busy he didn't have time to get one when he was here. The day before he left, he went to see Mom by himself. He played a little bingo with her and the other residents; and he had a very long talk with her. He came away encouraged that she did indeed like the place she was living now and that she was being well taken care of. It also made me feel good that she conveyed that message to him.
He saw friends and family and they were all happy to see him. My husband and I will go visit him sometime in the coming months. Although I haven't flown since he was about 2 years old which I'm not thrilled about, I'll have to put on my big girl undies and do it LOL.
I think he misses home a little but I KNOW he was happy to get back to where there was no SNOW.

Family
Our son came home on Wednesday. He moved out of state in August. It's been so good to see him. Today we are having Christmas with my husband's family. Last night we went to see my brother-in-law and sister-in-law because they won't be able to come and my son wanted to see them. We had a really good time. The weather wasn't that great going but luckily, coming home the roads were all plowed and salted so we didn't have any trouble getting home. Hopefully, the same will be said for today because we have to travel about an hour or so from our home.

Sue
I got a call from my sil, Kay, saying something like did you hear about Sue, my other sil. I said no, what happened. She was having heaviness in her chest on Wednesday and went to the doctor. They sent her right over to the ER. Yesterday, they transferred her to another hospital for a heart catheterization. Several years ago, she had triple bypass surgery and since then she's had to have some stints put in. We went to the hospital after doing our thing at mom's. She had gotten there about an hour before we arrived and no one had been able to see her yet. We only sat for a couple of minutes and we all were able to go in. Turns out she had some blockage but it wasn't enough to do anything about it. She has to follow up with her cardiologist. She came home last night.
