Burlesque

The place we stayed in Vegas was hosting a fundraiser for the Burlesque Hall Of Fame for 3 days while we were there.  http://bhofweekend.com/

I think we could have gotten tickets to some of the shows but at the time for some reason I thought it was a convention.  I think it would have been fun as I've never seen Burlesque.  It was neat seeing the Burlesque people and how they dressed.  Some were quite bawdy and risque, ha!

Son's girlfriend even asked a couple that were at the food court to take their picture which she took because I was too embarrassed lol.

Belmont, California Chrome, Doomed

So, I decided to do Alphabe-Thursday and then I missed B and C, oops.  We went to Las Vegas and I'm going to do B, C and D together.

Check out other Alphabe-Thursday's at Jenny's. http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2014/06/alphabe-thursday-letter-d.html

Saturday was the race at Belmont for a possible Triple Crown Winner. There hasn't been one for 36 years.

We got the above t-shirt for a $25 bet.  Hippie, son, girlfriend and I all bet on different horses.  I bet on California Chrome.

I was pretty sure my choice was doomed from the beginning but I bet anyhow.  It would have been cool if he won.  Oh well...at least I got the t-shirt.

Alphabe- Thursday

When Jenny first started this meme in September 2010, I  participated.  It was so much fun and then I burned out, ha!

I haven't blogged much this (strange) year.  I'm hoping I can jump start myself again into blogging.

Thanks Jenny for still doing Alphabe-Thursday with everything that's going on in your life.

Hey

So, I got through my first Mother's Day without Mom.  It was the first time I went to the cemetery since the funeral.  They didn't put the inscription on yet for the year of her passing.  It was weird knowing she was gone, but not seeing the date.

My brother had called me earlier from there letting me know it wasn't on and also the fact that there was no vase in the ground for flowers.  He ended up just leaving the flowers he bought on the grave stone.

I called the cemetery on Monday and ordered a vase.  It should be about a week before they put it in.  I also called the place who are supposed to do the inscription to make sure the funeral director notified them.  Naturally, she couldn't find anything.  I had to call the funeral director.  He was at a seminar and I should hear something next week.

Mom's birthday will be on May 26th. Memorial Day this year although she always called it Decoration Day.  She would have loved that the holiday fell on her birthday.

I hope to get back to blogging soon.  It's not like I haven't had anything to say.

2014 Blech!

So far, I'm not too keen on 2014.  Oh, there have been some good days, but there have been some really sucky bad ones too...

Less than 2 weeks before my mother passed, my dinner friend the one that had kidney cancer died.  She was the one that set up the whole cottage weekend.  The Tuesday after our weekend, she went into the hospital for pain management.  Then she went to a palliative/hospice place.  Then she went into just hospice.

While we had a good time when we were at the cottage, there were a few times that were heartbreaking.  When we got there the first day she slept the whole time until Saturday morning.  Saturday, she was like a different person and then she was a little shaky in the evening.  Sunday the day we were going to leave, she decided we should go out to breakfast.  We all got dressed.  One friend went to get the vehicle.  I and another friend started helping our friend go to the steps.  She put one foot on the step and collapsed.  I had to run into the cottage and get a kitchen chair.  We put her on it and had to carry her back in.  We decided to not go out.  When it was time for us to go home, one of the gals called the main place and asked for a maintenance person to come in case we needed help.  Sure enough, when our friend got to the first step again she collapsed.  Luckily, the guy came and helped get her up the steps and into the vehicle.  It was so sad.

When I think of every  thing she went through over the months, I wonder which is better going quick like my mom or like her where you have a chance to say whatever needs to be said to the person.  And then I think probably neither.

Lost

My Mom passed away in March.  I'm still shocked.  It's not like I thought it was never going to happen, it was just there was no warning.

She wasn't sick or anything.  In fact it's been over a year since she's had to go to the hospital.   We saw her one day, she was her usual talking, laughing, singing self, then during the night a nurse called and said when they checked on Mom she was gone.

It's been so strange not going to the nursing home and seeing her.  It's been a part of our routine for 4 1/2 years. I feel kind of lost.  Hippie says we'll have to get used to a new routine.
