Alphabe-Thursday

I had another hard time with Y this week.  So I chose for the letter Y, Yellowstone National Park.

When we got married, we decided to drive to California and see the sites a long the way for our honeymoon.  While it seemed like a good idea at the time, it really didn't give us a whole lot of time to see many things.  One place we did stop was Yellowstone National Park to see Old Faithful.  Here are a couple of pictures we took.
As long as I had the honeymoon pictures here are few more that we took along the way..
This is called the Corn Palace in Mitchell, South Dakota.
Of course this is Mt. Rushmore
I was to the Hearst Castle before but there is so much to see and my husband had never seen it.  Here's a picture of the outdoor pool.  A must see place I think if you're ever in California.  It is decadence personified but so much fun to look at.  You could take a vacation just to go see this place because there is so much to see.
This last one is one of the animals we saw at the San Diego Zoo.  I had been here too before but I never saw then or since such a beautiful zoo.
These are just some of the places we visited.  We only took 2 weeks so we didn't stay any one place very long.

Go on to Jenny's and see what others have come up with their Y post.  Only Z left and we'll be done with Alphabe-Thursday for now.  http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/07/alphabe-thursday-y.html

Would you believe I have never been to Yellowstone? I do want to go someday. I have always wondered why John Adams was not included on Mt. Rushmore.

Dear Viki,
Wow! I've never been to any of those places. I would also have been a disappointed if I had had to rush through and not really see what I wanted to see.

Maybe the next time you travel, you can chose fewer places or just one place that you really take a good look at.

Where do your interests lie?

When you mention the Hearst's Castle at San Simeon, it makes me think of Orson Welles film Citzen Cane (1941), which was probably inspired by Hearst's life. In the film, the castle was called 'Xanadu' (one of our X-words).
It was a woman archetect that helped Hearst build his San Simeon. She must have had an angel's patience. Hearst could have a wall built and then change his mind, have it taken down, rebuilt somewhere else, only to decide that the first idea was best! I read about this archetect in an article in 'American Hertitage' many years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have that magazine. I read it at my parents' home. So I don't remember her name.

Best wishes,
Anna

Good morning Viki,

Yellowstone is on my bucket list, so is Mt. Rushmore...so many great things to see in the USA. Such a shame I've lived all my life and seen very little of it!

Thanks for sharing with us today!

Yellowstone is one of the prettiest places on Earth. Mount Rushmore too. I spent a lot of time traveling with my family when I was growing up.

Great Y!

Oh, what a fun travel stop on our little journey through Alphabe-Thursday's letter "Y"!

I've been to all these places and they are all so memory worthy.

I've always wanted to write a childrens book about Mount Rushmore. You set my imagination to racing again!

Thanks for sharing your honeymoon with us. I'm glad you didn't share those "other" pics!

A+

Now that is one heck of a road trip! We are driving from SC to Florida and that is long enough for me. Thanks Viki for your kind words, especially on the OPRAH gig....I gave it a good whirl, and I am very happy I did it regardless of the rigged outcome (just kidding). Enjoy your break. I know I sure do not post as much as normal since my boys are home, I do not have the time.
