Eyesore - Thursday & Alphabe-Thursday

Today is Alphabe-Thursday at Jenny's, I'll give you the link at the end

My eyesore today is in the kitchen and B is the letter.

This is the cupboard in my kitchen above the microwave.  It holds a lot of stuff but mostly Baking supplies.  The weird thing about it is, I rarely Bake.  I think I keep all this stuff up there because there's no place else to put it.  I've got two rolling pins, never use.  I have a Sunbeam mixer I've had for at least 20 years which I've probably used less than a half a dozen times. Then I've got the hand mixer and if you click it Big, you'll see how dirty it is from never being used.  Plus, there's cooling racks.  Also, aluminum pans which I do use these for holidays.  Mixing Bowls which use.  My good set of steak knives.  Then a set of steak knives I bought and then didn't like.  I definitely use the measuring cups and spoons.  We use the Bacon thingie for the microwave.

So what do you think?  I don't know if it's procrastination so much as I don't know where to put all the Baking supplies.  There's no room in my kitchen and I don't see any place in the Basement that it would fit either.  It does irritate me the way it looks right now.  Part of that is laziness on my part that it looks so messy.  Sometimes instead of getting a chair out (because I can't reach) I just kinda throw it up there and hope nothing falls on me when I open the door ;-) Please don't tell me to get rid of theBaking supplies.

For those just joining us, all week I've been showing what I consider "eyesores" in my home.  You know the place that's a mess that only you know about.  I'm trying to figure out if I'm procrastinating on these areas or if I'm just at a loss to figure out how to fix them.

Consider going  over to Alphabe-Thursday and see what others are doing for their B word. http://jennymatlock.blogspot.com/2010/01/alphabe-thursday-b.html  If you have a Blog and would like to join in there's still time. For all you prize lovers, there are prizes involved.

I have a cupboard above my kitchen stove that I keep my baking pans in. I also have to just throw them up there & hope that they stay. :0}
I'd have to be 6' tall to reach there and trying to get one down to use...geesh.
Just close the door, I say!!!

I'm having some remodeling done right now, so I basically have a house that resembles your cupboard. ;)

I am only 5 foot so I know about the throwing method. I actually have a cupboard like that over my fridge. It is totally empty for that reason. Pull the chair out every 3 or 4 months and start over. :)

shhh, just close the cupboard door. Whose gonna know!

I'm with Julie, shut the door (lock it if you have to) and just walk quietly away. I'll never tell. Kathy

I too have a few cupboards in my kitchen like that... perhaps your posts will motivate me to do something about them! As far as what to do...

Give away/donate/garage sale the items you don't need/use. Then perhaps try to organize the cupboard by shapes. Rectangular items together, round items, etc.

Who doesn't have a cabinet or closet like this? Good luck. The Container Store has wonderful solutions for organizing storage. Perhaps they have something that will work for this cabinet. Good Luck!

Ok--I want one of your rolling pins and a couple of your cooling racks! LOL

How funny! I think we all have cabinets like that because most kitchens were designed by men who don't cook. That's not a slap on men, but I've been in kitchens where men cook and they are fabulous!

What do you use? Think about your priorities. How often do you use any of these things--electric hand beaters are good to keep around--but the Sunbeam can go to a local thrift store or homeless shelter.

I have a cabinet that looks like that! I can't reach it and I hate climbing up to get to it!

Oh dear...it looks like some of my cabinets. Just wait until we get to J for junk and M for messy. I'm ready! :)

I just shoveled out my kitchen cabinets so the eyesores are contained for the moment there...however, my linen closet...acccckkkk! It is a horror. I shudder to think if I die and someone goes in there to get a sheet to cover my body or something.

Neat post and thanks for playing!

You get an A+!

Hi Viki
Nice to meet you through Alphabe Thursday!

I ahve the same dilemma ..I love Williams Sonoma baking pans and I have quite a collection. Now I store them in a closet in my basement. Less clutter but "out of sight, out of mind" :-(

i have a pantry that looks like that...i have really good intentions for it...but you know what they say about good intentions!

Darn it. I was gonna ask for the cooling racks but I see someone beat me to it. :-)

in my case, I actually do use everything in the kitchen so (unlike with the books) there's nothing I can imagine losing. Plus my father in law doesn't cook AT ALL so I need everything.

Oh, and I think everyone does the 'throw and pray' with something or other!

Ooooooooo If you don't use the Pyrex measuring cups, can I have those too? I'm always needing an extra one, when the only one I have is busy being used! LOL

Great Post. I love the responses!

It's like a doppelganger of my kitchen horror cabinet!

OH yes the junk cupboard where all the stuff you don't know what to do with gets put! :-) LOL, we probably all have had one of those at one time or another.
A couple of years ago I went through my entire kitchen... every cupboard, every drawer... and removed all the items that I didn't use. Big purge. Put it all in a garage sale to raise money for the high school band. After that I had plenty of room for the things that were important to me and that I used on a regular basis. I don't miss any of it.

Since I am short, I can't put anything up too high, unless I don't use them..

I have many drawers though that look like your cupboard..Close the door, and you won't see it!

I'm short ... so i do the same thing ... toss something up in a cupboard or shelf and pray that it doesnt fall on my head the next time i open the door!

I always say when I buy a new pan, I'll throw away an old one - fail!!

We all have cupboards like yours! Great post

Goodness, I think most of my cupboards look like that! Thanks for posting-- I feel like I'm "not alone," in my messy little secrets, anymore! ( Although your cupboard's not really that bad...)
