Mom potpourri edited

Jenny is doing an Alphabe-Thursday where each week a different letter will be used.  This week is A. I really think your suppose to focus more than I did on the letter but  since I had used album, I figure that's a good A one to use until I get the hang of it.  If I ever do lol.   To go and see more check out :

About two weeks ago, I noticed that Mom's legs were starting to swell again. I mentioned it to the nurse and she said she had already put a call into the doctor to tell him.  He doubled up on her water pills.  After a week, I was surprised her legs didn't look a lot better.  The nurse mentioned that her legs might not go back down to where they were the last time.  The last few days her legs have finally gone down a whole lot.  Today will  be her last day on the double dose.  Last Thursday, they did a blood test to make sure her kidneys were working well.  When I talked to the nurse, she said they were fine but her potassium was a little low and they were going to add more potassium for awhile and then do another blood test.

One day, I took Mom in her room to put her dresses back in that I had put the name tags on.  Her roommate was in the bathroom.  (I don't know what she does in the bathroom so much).  I went in when she was coming out. I had mom stay in the hallway for a few minutes because it would be too crowded.  The roommate started talking to me in a foreign language.  I told her she had to speak English because I didn't understand her.  She was asking me who I was.  I told her I was her roommates daughter.  Then she started speaking foreign again.  And, I'm telling her to speak English.  She's asking me what I'm doing in the room.  I told her I was putting some stuff away for mom.  Then she tells me she is Romanian (finally, I know what nationality she is).  I told her I'm American.  She said she was too LOL.  Then I helped her get passed me and she grabs my hand and kisses it.  I really think she can't see well.  She's seen me so many times.

I never got to show the album I made for Mom for Christmas.  I should have taken a picture of it before I took it apart.

This is what happened with it.  The pages were glued in.  I should have realized when I first put them in it wasn't going to last long.  Before I even got finished with it some pages came out.  Mom probably had it for about 1 1/2 weeks when about 1/3 of the pages came out.  I wish I remembered where this came from because I sure wouldn't ever buy something from them again.

The new photo album I bought is a little larger and has many more pages, which leaves about half the album empty now.  Hopefully, I will be able to add more pictures as time goes on.  It is kind of the same concept but it is reinforced.  We'll see how long this one lasts.  They just don't make things like they used to.  I think this picture was of Mom when she was a bridesmaid.  Click on it to see it more closely.

How wonderful that you were able to clarify things for your mom's roommate--she may not see well and was startled to see you there.

The photo album is cheerful and lovely. I'm sure your mother will appreciate it.

Glad that they seem to have gotten your mom's swelling issues resolved. Love the album, the bright red with the circles is so fun. And the photo that you put on the front is great! Kathy

What a great album and a beautiful picture of your mother. I just love old pictures like that, especially of family members. You just know there's a story behind them, either why the shot was taken or what they were thinking or what the day was like. I have literally spent hours looking at old pictures.

Your comment on my post had me laughing out loud - I would have counted too!!

I admire people that have the patience to listen to those who are challenged. Sometimes people forget that they still have feelings too!
Your Mom will love your album!

My mom was in a nursing home 2 hours away for 5 years until she passed away this summer. On Sundays I would go to early church and then drive up to sit with her. Your mother will always remember all the wonderful things you have done for her, and I will tell you that it will always be a comfort to you that you did all those special things for her! I don't mean to me so "negative" but I wanted you to know I understand where you are!!

My mom is 95. Her favorite thing to do is sit and look through all her photo albums. She has family albums that she has organized through the years and we make her an album with photos each time we celebrate one of her birthdays. Photos help keep those memories vivid for her.
I'm sure your mom appreciates that you are organizing an album for her. Thanks for sharing.

It is so hard to watch our loved ones age. I think your idea of the album is lovely - and very important for your mother.

Your mom's roommate probably just gets confused and will need reminding often who you are. When I visit my 85-year-old mom in GA, it's like that. I constantly have to repear things. She'll ask, "Are we here alone?" I just tell here over and over, "Yes, Mom, I came from California alone."
